PATENT CELL

"The 11 members Patent Cell was constituted with The Secretary to Government Health and Family Welfare Department as Chairman and Director Ayurveda Medical Education as the convenor during 2003. The Patent Cell is aimed at the digitalization of Traditional Medical Knowledge of Kerala especially in the wake of new patent regime following India involvement in TRIPS agreement. Unlike other states Kerala is having rich tradition of Medical Practice. Most of these knowledge are depicted in manuscripts and texts often in crude languages.In coming days these invaluable information if put for higher research may bring out effective remedies for many unanswered medical issues.National level protection of these knowledge under the category of patents, Geographical indications or Copyrights is a pre requisite for its protection at International level which has become a national security. A book has been published with the State Government fund named "" Keraleeya Oushada Vijanam"" Vol-1 ""(Malayalam).

" Government of India, Department of AYUSH have approved the proposal roject on digitalization of treatment Modalities of Kerala at an estimated cost of Rs.1,39,00,000/- (Rupees One Crore thirty ninelakhs only) and an amount of Rs. 41,70,000/- (Rupees forty one lakhs and seventy thousand only) has been released towards 1st installment.All the infrastruture facility has been implemented for the scheme and accordingly material for three text are ready to publish both in English and Malyalam as named below."

PHARMACOGNOSY UNIT

"This department working under Government Ayurveda College,Thiruvananthpuram.The objective of this unit is to conduct research work in medicinal plants especially the raw drugs with special emphasis to their identification scientifically, whether it is genuine or not. The unit is publishing its research works in a publication Pharmacognosy of Ayurvedic drugs  Kerala. A Herbal Garden is maintining under this department.The herbal garden consists of more than 400 species of medicinal plants spread over 6 acres of land attached to the Panchakarma Hospital compound, Poojapura, Thiruvananthapuram.

A well established nursery with seedlings/ saplings of more than 250 species of medicinal plants are available. The seedlings are sold for a moderate charge for the public.

PHARMACY

Government Ayurveda College Thiruvananthapuram and Trippunithura having Pharmacies under this department.The aim of the pharmacy is to impart training to the UG/PG students in the preparation of Ayurveda Medicine and to prepare and supply quality medicines to the collegiate hospitals attached with the Ayurveda Colleges.

PUBLICATION DIVISION

The Publication division established on 1974 under the Government Ayurveda College,Thiruvananthapuram.The publication division of Govt. Ayurveda College is under this department, which has published rare classical books and Ayurveda text books for students. The manuscript collection attached to the department is the largest collection among the Ayurveda colleges of Kerala. The division has already published 27 books on Ayurveda.
